Based on our government officials the old airport in the city will be closed from October 2023. The new airport, Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport (SAI), is far away from Siem Reap City and will incur more for transfers. It is stated the construction of the New Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport is now 86% complete. The new airport is said to be put into trial use in June 2023 and into official operation by October 2023.
The Remarkabilities of the New Siem Reap International Airport
The airport will be able to accommodate long-haul flights, with its terminal capable of serving between seven and 10 million passengers per year, and its cargo and warehousing facilities boasting an annual handling capacity of up to 100,000 tonnes per year.
The airport will reportedly be able to receive about seven million passengers per year initially, 10 million by 2030, and 20 million by 2050. Similarly, annual cargo capacity is also expected to rise from 10,000 tonnes initially to 60,000 tonnes by 2050.
What to Take Note about the New Siem Reap International Airport
The new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport is far away from Siem Reap City which is about 40km and takes from 45 minutes to 1 hour. Therefore, your transfers to the airport need adding more time otherwise your flights will be unexpectedly canceled.
